Welcome Back

It’s been lovely to welcome the children back to Ravenswood for the final half term of the year after a scortching hot half term week (we made sure the chickens had suncream!). On this theme, nursery had a lovely time baking their own bread after reading ‘The Little Red Hen’

There are so many events coming up in the final half term (including the year 6 residential to Borrowdale next week). Please make sure you check the key dates at the end of the newsletter for things coming up this half term.

Parent Governor Nominations

We have received three parent nominations for the previously advertised governor position. Each nominee has provided a personal statement, which you can read below.

Nicola Culpin

As a parent of a child at Ravenswood, I am keen to contribute positively to the school community. I have over 15 years’ experience in safeguarding and understand the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment where children can thrive. Through my professional and personal experience, I have developed strong communication, listening, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with others. I am committed to promoting the wellbeing, safety, and educational success of all pupils. I would welcome the opportunity to support the school’s leadership and represent the views of parents effectively.

Phillipa Brock

As a parent of a Yr1 child living with a serious medical condition, I am passionate about ensuring school policies support, protect and enrich the lives of all children managing

challenges in education. Through my work at a university, I understand the vital role primary education plays in shaping lifelong opportunities and aspirations. I am committed to helping our school foster curiosity, confidence and inclusion for every pupil. My professional experience working with local government, public bodies and diverse communities would also enable me to contribute constructively as the school undertakes its important building improvement project and future development.

Anna Buttenshaw

As an experienced public servant with four children attending Ravenswood Primary School, I would be delighted to serve as a parent governor. As the school adapts to budgetary pressures and considers taking part in the School Rebuilding Programme, I would bring more than a decade of experience managing complex projects in a local government context. I am a collaborative, friendly mum who volunteers with children outside of work and is committed to securing the best outcomes for children from all backgrounds in our school and community.

Shakespeare Rehearsals

Children from drama club have been working incredibly hard in rehearsals with Mr Chapman for their upcoming performance at the People’s Theatre on Thursday 18th June. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic show, and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage!

Squishy Toys

To reiterate a previous message sent out: We have recently experienced a number of incidents involving children bringing “squishy” toys into school, particularly squishy “dumplings.” Since returning after half term, these items have become increasingly problematic.

They have proven to be highly distracting during lessons, have caused disagreements between pupils, and in some cases have burst, resulting in mess and concern. In addition, the substance inside these toys can be potentially harmful.

per our school policy on toys, these items are not permitted in school. Any squishy toys brought onto school premises will be confiscated by teachers and returned to pupils at the end of the day.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your child does not bring these items into school.

Please note that this is different from fidget tools. Where appropriate, teachers may provide specific resources in class to support pupils with regulation. These are supplied by the school and should not be brought in from home.
