Rain Rain GO AWAY!!
What a lot of rain we’ve had this half term. I don’t think I’ve ever known a wetter start to a year. We’ve had so many wet play and lunchtimes this half term and many rainy mornings. Thank you for bearing with us during this very soggy start to 2026. Please make sure that children come to school with water proof coats (even if it’s not raining in the morning) so that in light rain we can still go outside for short periods with the children. Hopefully after half term, the sun will join us again!
Ouseburn Learning Trust (OLT) Training day
A reminder that school is closed tomorrow for the OLT training day. School will reopen on Monday 23rd February.
School Animals

As part of our plan for developing our outdoor learning, the Friends of Ravenswood have very kindly arranged for school to receive a hatching kit of chicks after half term. We’ll receive the eggs/incuabator and run in the first week after half term and have them set up in a room so that all children can visit them and watch them grow. Our plan is that the chicks will stay with school for a couple of weeks, return to the farm to develop and be looked after. We’ll then collect four chickens to return to live at Ravenswood and be looked after by the children. Eventually we should then have some eggs that families could buy. We’ll need to have a naming competition set up for the children later in the year. We’re very eggcited!
Ramadan
As we approach the month of Ramadan, we would like to take a moment to recognise this important and special time for many of our families. Ramadan is a significant month in the Islamic calendar, focused on reflection, kindness, charity and, for many adults, fasting from dawn until sunset.
Children of primary school age are not expected to fast. However, we understand that some of our older pupils (Years 5 and 6) may choose to join their friends and family by fasting for part or all of the school day. If your child plans to fast, please let the school know so that we can support them appropriately. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that your child is not taking part.
Children who are fasting will not be required to go into the lunch hall, and we will ensure they are not expected to take part in activities involving high levels of physical exertion. We would also appreciate parents encouraging children who are fasting to avoid high-energy games, such as football, during break and lunchtime.
The wellbeing of our pupils is always our top priority. If a child who is fasting begins to feel unwell (for example, experiencing dizziness, headaches or fatigue), we will support them to rest and will contact parents to discuss next steps. Where necessary, we may advise that a child breaks their fast for health and safety reasons, as children’s wellbeing must always come first.
As always, our aim is to work closely and respectfully with families while ensuring that every pupil remains safe and well. Thank you for your continued support.
Waterbottles
A reminder that children may bring water bottles to school. For health reasons, we ask that only water is drunk during the school day. Juice is fine at lunchtime with school dinners or in packed lunches, but not during class.
Thank you for your support!
