Heatwave

It has been a very hot week at Ravenswood, and we have taken a number of steps to keep children safe and comfortable. Children have had additional water breaks, and we took inspiration from the World Cup by setting up “hydration stations” on the yard at lunchtime – thank you to our Year 6 children for their help with this.

Pupils have also been encouraged to spend time in shaded areas and have been brought inside earlier to cool down before lessons. Thank you for continuing to send children in with appropriate clothing and suncream – we really appreciate your support. Hopefully, the weather will be a little cooler next week.

School trips

Year 1 and Year 6 both enjoyed successful visits out of school this week. Thank you to the parents who supported these trips – your help makes these opportunities possible for our children.

Events taking place next week:

Weds 1st July – Nursery Sports Day – Just after 1pm (after the rest of KS1 children are safely back in their classrooms, we’ll open the school gates for nursery parents to join us. The Nursery sports day will take place on the school MUGA. After the event, parents are able to take children directly from this area.

Thursday 2nd July – Scottish Opera performance – 2pm

We are delighted to invite parents of Year 4 children to a special Scottish Opera performance taking place next Thursday afternoon. Parents are welcome to arrive at school at 2:00 pm, before being escorted to the KS2 hall for the show. The children have been rehearsing enthusiastically, and having heard them practise, I can say they sound absolutely wonderful—we’re sure it will be a fantastic performance!

Friday 3rd July - Summer fair – 2pm start

As mentioned on previous newsletters, our school summer fair will begin at the earlier time of 2.00pm. This earlier start time means that the children who will run the stalls, the many volunteers who help organise and run the event and school staff will not need to stay behind too late on a Friday evening to clear up the event once finished. It also helps to stagger the fair, reducing how busy it initially is.

Parents will be able to collect their children from their usual home time pick-up points at 2.00pm. Parts of the fair will already be set up on the Key Stage 2 yard and we ask that parents don’t allow children to go on the school fair stalls/equipment initially till we have officially opened. Parents who pick up here will need to leave the yard and then re-enter school through either the main office or through the car park entrance (we will be opening the car park entrance initially for around 40 minutes to help reduce long queues)

Parents can then queue at either the main entrance or at the car park to enter the fair (£1 per adult entry – to help speed up entrance, please have change ready) at 2:15pm. Please bear with us for the start of the fair – we know there will be a long queue, however, we need to make sure we’ve accounted for all children being safely delivered to the right family members or areas.

Parents who are unable to collect at 2.00pm will need to collect their children at the usual school time from the Key Stage 1 Hall. Clowning Around will also be collecting children from this hall at the end of the day if needed.

*note nursery children that are staying until the usual school time will remain in nursery and will need to be collected from here.

Information about this has been sent to parents via the school app – please make sure you have indicated whether you will be collecting children at the earlier time so that we can be organised on the day and have children in the right place.
