Chickmania

The whole school has fallen in love this week with seven little chicks that have joined Ravenswood. The eggs arrived on Monday, and we were lucky enough to watch them hatch — Class 3 even saw one emerge from its shell live! We will be caring for the chicks until next Friday, when they return to the farm for their medical checks. Later in the term, we will welcome four of them back to Ravenswood permanently.

Their arrival has caused great excitement across the school. In just two days, our suggestion box received 289 name votes — a wonderful sign of how much the children have enjoyed this experience.

A huge thank you to the Friends of Ravenswood for funding this fantastic opportunity for the children.

Good Luck Miss Jackson / Welcome Miss Hepworth

Miss Jackson left Ravenswood at the half-term break to begin her maternity leave as she prepares to welcome her new baby. We are sure she will be a wonderful mum and send her our very best wishes for this special time. In her absence, Miss Hepworth has joined Ravenswood and will be caring for our Nursery children.

As mentioned to the children this week, Mrs Anderson is also expecting her baby very soon. At some point in the coming weeks, I will be away from school to spend time settling in as a family of five. During this period, the Senior Leadership Team will continue to oversee the day-to-day running of the school, and all usual channels of communication will remain in place.

Chair of Governor visit

We had a full day visit from our Chair of governors earlier this week. He noted that:

“the children themselves were just lovely. So polite and well behaved and loads of them came over to ask who I was and why I was there. The vision ambassadors especially were incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to talk to me and answer my questions.”

Next week:

On Monday after school, there’s a Robinwood information meeting for parents of children who will be joining the school residential later this term.  This will be held in the KS1 hall after school beginning at 3:30pm.

Book Look

On Tuesday and Thursday, we have book looks for parents of children in KS1 & KS2 (class 4 – 21). These will run straight after school for 30 minutes. Children will leave school as usual and then come back into school via the main entrance or the school car park entrance.  This is so children can share their learning with parents ahead of parents evening the following week. We’ll ring the bell to signal the end of book look.

On Thursday we’re celebrating World Book Day. We will be inviting children and staff to dress up for world book day. We don’t want any families having to spend money on costumes. Our theme for this year is ‘COLOUR’.

Children will be asked to come to school wearing the colour rather than a ‘costume’ that links to or is inspired by their chosen book or character.

For example:

Red – Red Riding Hood, The ladybird from ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, Smeds and the Smoos

Orange – The Lorax (Dr Seuss), Zog, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, the Peach from James and the Giant Peach

Green –  Evil Pea (Supertato, The Hungry Caterpillar, Peter Pan, The Grinch, Robin Hood, Snozzcumber from the BFG, The Enormous Crocodile

We warmly invite parents to join their children for a special classroom activity. Parents of Key Stage 2 children are welcome from 9:00 AM, while parents of Key Stage 1 and Early Years children can join from 2:30 PM. Each session will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes. To ensure enough space for everyone, we kindly ask that only one family member per child attends. If you are a KS2 parent and joining for the morning, we ask you to drop your children off as usual, give our teachers a chance to register children and take lunch options and for you to come to the main office to be directed to classrooms.

World Book Day Tokens

We sent out our World Book Day Tokens before the holiday to give parents a chance to get books before they ran out. However, Jesmond Park have passed on the following information:

“At Jesmond Park Academy, we have become a World Book Day Community Hub, which means we have all the copies of books that are available in exchange for the £1 book tokens.  If you have any pupils who would like to collect their books from us, rather than going to town, then we are opening our doors on March 9th, 10th and 11th from 3.00pm until 4.15pm.”
