Kielder Stargazing

Mr Clarke this week set up a fantastic Kielder stargazing event for children and parents to attend after school. Children were able to visit a planetarium, see through a virtual telescope and see objects from space including a meteorite that was over 4.5million years old!

Football Success

Mr Chapman reported that: The U10 boys' football team were outstanding on Tuesday night, crowned deserved winners of the RGS Floodlit Cup. For a team that had never played together, they showed superb resilience, team-work and real quality against top notch opponents. Well done boys!

Friends of Ravenswood (FOR) Discos

School discos are being held next week for all children.

Tuesday 3rd February

Early Years Disco: 3:15pm – 4:15pm

Children will come to the disco straight from school and will need to be collected from the KS1 hall. We’ll put in a one way system for parents to enter the hall, collect their children and leave via a different exit.

Wednesday 4th February

KS1 Disco: 3:25pm – 4:25pm

Children will enter the disco straight from school. They will need to be collected at 4:25 from the KS2 hall. We’ll put in a one way system allowing a number of parents at a time into the hall to collect their children and leave via a different exit.

KS2 Disco: 4:45pm – 5:45pm

Children will need to queue in the school carpark area to enter the disco (if you arrive really early, please wait until KS1 parents have collected their children). Children will be able to enter the disco at 4:45 and will then need to be collected at 5:45 from the same place. We’ll put in a one way system allowing a number of parents at a time into the hall to collect their children and leave via a different exit.

The Friends of Ravenswood have an agreed list of parent volunteers who are supporting the discos. To ensure we maintain safe numbers and appropriate supervision ratios, we’re unable to accept additional parent helpers on the day.

Further information:

When purchasing tickets, please double-check that you have selected the correct disco for your child. Unfortunately, several tickets were booked for the wrong disco in November, which required follow-up from the school office.

We would also like to remind parents that if your child needs to be taken to Clowning Around after the disco, this must be:

  • clearly indicated on the booking form, and
  • communicated directly to the Clowning Around staff.

Thank you for your support.

SATs information meeting

We will be holding a SATs information meeting for Year 6 parents on Wednesday 4th February at 5:00pm.

The meeting will explain:

  • The SATs papers the children will take
  • The dates of the tests
  • Answers to frequently asked questions

The meeting will last no longer than 20 minutes.

There is no need to sign up in advance — please just arrive on the day at the main office. Please note this event is for parents and not intended for children.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Dates for the Future:

World Book Day – On Thursday 5th March, we’ll be celebrating world book day at Ravenswood Primary school. We’ll be inviting parents of:

  • KS2 children into school from 9am
  • KS1 and Early Years from 2:30pm

We will be inviting children and staff to dress up for world book day. We don’t want any families having to spend money on costumes. Our theme for this year is ‘COLOUR’.

Children will be asked to come to school wearing the colour rather than a ‘costume’ that links to or is inspired by their chosen book or character.

For example:

Red – Red Riding Hood, The ladybird from ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, Smeds and the Smoos

Orange – The Lorax (Dr Seuss), Zog, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, the Peach from James and the Giant Peach

Green –  Evil Pea (Supertato), The Hungry Caterpillar, Peter Pan, The Grinch, Robin Hood, Snozzcumber from the BFG, The Enormous Crocodile etc.

No Smoking/Vaping

We kindly remind parents that smoking and vaping are not allowed on school grounds. We ask for your cooperation in avoiding these activities near the school entrance, helping to ensure a healthy environment for our children as they arrive and leave school.
