Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 18th December 2023

Merry Christmas to our whole Ravenswood family.

What a great final week. It is lovely for us to have the children in school this close to Christmas. They are all very ready for a break and very excited for Father Christmas. He managed to squeeze us in to his busy schedule on Wednesday, visiting Nursery, Reception Year 1 and Year 2. He was really impressed by the children and all of their hard work, so the naughty list might have shrunk a bit!

It has been a week of parties across the school. Judging by the noise, they all appear to have gone very well.

Nursery and Reception went on an adventure to Fenwick’s Christmas window. They used public transport and had a fabulous time. Most of the bus drivers were lovely!

On Monday, our good friend Chris Bostock came to school to share a Christmas story with Reception and Key Stage 1. It was as magical as ever. Hopefully the children were able to share the story with you at home. If they need a reminder, ask them which animal brought the green scarf to the party.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Christmas Celebration at St Gabriel’s Church on Tuesday evening. Special thanks to all of the children who took part and to Father Jonathan for making us so welcome.

On Wednesday, we had Christmas jumper day and Christmas dinner. Thanks to all of our kitchen staff and lunchtime supervisors, as it is always a rather busy day.

On Thursday, Year 6 made a super effort for their Christmas fancy dress parade. It was very hard to select winners, so the judges cheated and gave out ten prizes. Well done to the winners, to everyone who got dressed up and to the families for helping out at home. Here are the winners.

And on Friday, a raggle taggle group of travelling players turned up at school wanting to share a pantomime with the children. They weren’t charging, so we let them in and the children seemed to enjoy their performance. We still don’t know who they were, as they disappeared as quickly as they had arrived.

Finally, I am delighted to be able to share this final blog of the year with Ravenswood’s next Headteacher. Mr Anderson was appointed in November and is telling the families at his school about his move today. He will start as Head at Ravenswood in September, which gives us lots of time for his school to get a new Head and for us to hand things over. The governors have made a fabulous choice in appointing Reuben and I am confident that you will all love having him leading our wonderful school into the future. Here is a message from him.

Hello, my name is Reuben Anderson and I'm very excited to come and work with all the staff at Ravenswood Primary School. I'm originally from Sheffield but have lived in the North East for the last 15 years. I've worked at schools in Warwickshire, Leicestershire, North Tyneside and Northumberland and have been headteacher at Stead Lane Primary School in Bedlington for the last 6 years, leading the school through two successive good Ofsted inspections and the COVID pandemic.  I have two wonderful daughters of primary school age and love trying to keep fit and healthy, so I can eat lots of chocolate! I'm looking forward to learning all about the many things that make Ravenswood so special. I've met some exceptionally polite and friendly children (and staff) on my visits but look forward to meeting many more in the coming months.
