Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 1st July 2024

The week has been building up to the huge event today. No, not the general election result, the Ravenswood Summer Fair! Thanks to the Friends of Ravenswood for their hours of preparation for this event and to everyone who is helping out. We are looking forward to it and hope to see lots of people there. I will have some photos and a report on how it all went in next week’s blog.

The week started off with the Year 4 Scottish Opera visit. The classes have worked really hard to learn their songs and the performances were excellent. Thanks to everyone who came along.

This week has been testing week for the children in Years 1 to 5. At the end of each term we do a set of tests to monitor the progress of each child. The children have worked very hard with some excellent results. Next week, we receive the Year 6 SAT results, so we are hoping for an equally good outcome.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Early Years sports day on Tuesday. We got a little wet at one point, but managed to get through all of the races. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the second event on Thursday due to the extreme weather forecast for wind. We have rearranged this for Friday 12th July.

Year 6 have been busy all week running the annual House Athletics Competition. They design the athletics events and then explain them and judge them with every year group across the week. They were brilliant this year and everyone had a great time being active. Winners won House Points for their House and the overall winners were the Red Dragons. The squirrels won in the Nursery event. Well done to everyone for taking part.

Reports are going out tonight. Can I take this opportunity to thank the teachers for their hours of work on these? They have captured each child really well and there is a huge amount to celebrate after another busy year.

Next week is transition week for our Year 6 pupils. Most of them will be out from Wednesday to Friday at Jesmond Park Academy. I am sure they will have a great first experience of their new school. We are having a transition afternoon in school on Thursday. Everybody will spend the afternoon with their new teacher and teaching assistant in their new classroom. They will also get to find out where to line up for their new class in September!

Just a heads up for the final week of term. Sports Day for Year 1 and 2 will be on the morning of Monday 15th July. Feel free to stay on the yard after drop off. We will get the children out as soon as we can after registration. The event is usually finished by 10:30. Sports Day for Years 3-6 will be on the afternoon of Monday 5th July. We will open the side gate next to the car park between 1 and 1:15pm. We won’t be able to leave this open, so if you come late, you will have to come through reception. This event usually takes the whole afternoon and you will be able to wait on the yard while teachers take the children in before releasing them. Should the event start and then be rained off, in the same way as the Great Get Together, we will take the children back into school and ask you to return for your child at the normal home time. Fingers crossed for good weather.
