Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 21st March 2022

It was great to see everyone at the start of the week for parent consultations. I hope you had a useful meeting and found that the face-to-face organisation worked. Everyone stayed close to their given times and we didn’t have big groups waiting to be seen, so thanks for helping us with this. If you missed your meeting for any reason, do get in touch and we can organise a catch up at the end of school or give you a ring.

We have been celebrating active travel to school this week and it is going quite well. It would be lovely to raise our percentages a little bit more next week, so please do try to make at least 10 minutes of your journey to school active. Ali from Sustrans was in school all day on Friday, talking to parents, creating our school’s travel plan and celebrating the work that the School Council did with her earlier in the year. There will be more to celebrate when we hopefully start our School Streets project.

The Woodland Trust trees were planted this week with help from Class 11 and 13. This is our second set of trees from the Trust and so we have tried to extend our small copse at the bottom corner of the field. In the photos you can see the trees that were planted 5 years ago.

Last Saturday, I spent the morning with our “Science is my Superpower” girls at Newcastle High School for Girls. They had a great time extracting DNA from bananas and learning about the structure of its double helix.

I have been observing lessons again this week. I have seen science in Year 3 and 4, history in Year 4, French in Year 4, music in Year 6, maths in Year 2 and phonics in Year 1. It is always good to see the teachers at work and the children really enjoying their learning.

Next week we have this term’s In the Loop meeting. Julian Hughes will be with us to tell parents all about keeping your children safe on the internet at home. This is a great session and I would recommend it to everyone. I will also give a little update about what is going on at Ravenswood and what we have planned for next term. Feel free to join us for a coffee and chat straight after drop-off.

Also next week, Year 5 will be off to Robinwood from Monday to Wednesday. This is a great experience for the children and I know they will have a fabulous time. I will have some photos for you in next week’s blog.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. I have to keep reminding myself that it is only March. I am sure the British weather will sort that problem out soon enough!
