Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 22nd January 2024

Christine Kennedy left Ravenswood today after 22 years of service. She started working for us in 2002 as a Teaching Assistant and was our first ever Assistant SENCO, working closely alongside Miss Lowther. She was also a school governor for many years. She has been a huge support over the years to many teachers and hundreds, if not thousands, of pupils and she will be greatly missed by everyone. We wish her well in her retirement; she knows she will always be welcome at Ravenswood.

On Thursday, we planted a tree at the front of school in memory of Thierry Wijns. Thierry was very much part of our Ravenswood community as a parent in school and as our caretaker. It is a real privilege to be able to plant a tree in his memory. He was with us on staff for too short a time but will always be remembered.

Thanks to all of the Year 6 families who came along to the SATs meeting on Wednesday evening. I hope you found it useful. We had an unusual glitch in the email system when publicising this meeting, so apologies to anyone who didn’t get the message that this was happening. I have added the notes from the meeting to the website. You can find them here – https://ravenswoodprimary.co.uk/Parents/Helping-at-Home/

Mrs Mason and I have completed all of our Teaching Assistant appraisals this week. It has been a real pleasure to sit down with them and discuss their roles in school. We are lucky to have such a talented and committed team to support all of our children in their learning. Thanks to them all.

On Thursday we had two teams out representing Ravenswood. Mrs Shiel’s netball team took part in the citywide competition at Blue Flames Sports Club. They made it all the way to the semi-finals where they were narrowly beaten 3-2. Fantastic stuff!

Mr Chapman’s boys’ football team played in the latest round of their league where they won two matches, drew one and narrowly lost their fourth. Max scored a hattrick and Jack impressed in goal again. Well done to the whole team.

Friends of Ravenswood Disco tickets for Tuesday 27th February are now available. Numbers are limited, so get them quick while they are available. If you can offer help, please let the Friends know, as these events can only happen if we have this support.
