Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 26th February 2024

Welcome back. I hope everyone had a lovely half term.

The big news today is that we are hoping to recruit some new parent governors. Two parent governors have come to the end of their term of office and we have also moved Simon Mather to the position of Vice Chair. This is an exciting time to be a school governor, with the arrival of Mr Anderson in September, so I would encourage you to give this some serious thought. Our governors are a lovely group of people who take their role seriously and make sure that meetings are interesting and enjoyable. I will be sending out some information and nomination forms on Friday to all parents, but please stop me on the yard or contact me if you have further questions.

Next week will be Book Look week. These begin at 3pm and finish at the end of the school day. The organisation is as follows:

  • Year 3/4 – Tuesday 5th March
  • Year 5/6 – Wednesday 6th March
  • Year 1/2 – Thursday 7th March

We will also be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. The children will be watching The Masked Reader videos on the day and trying to guess which teacher is reading each story. These will be on the website for you to enjoy at home, should you wish to. Every classroom door is also being decorated as a famous book cover.

Parent Consultations will take place in the week beginning Monday 11th March. Most families have booked their slots now, which is great. If you haven’t, please pop onto the app or give the office a ring and we will get you a time.

Finally, lots of children do lots of amazing things outside school and this half term one of our Year 6 boys, Oscar, captained Newcastle United’s Under 11 boys to a victory in the Premier League Futsal Finals, beating Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Benfica to get to the semi-finals. They then claimed an excellent 6-0 win against Aston Villa before defeating Arsenal 3-2 in the final to lift the trophy. Well done to Oscar and his team mates. Hopefully we will see him playing in the Premier League in the not too distant future.
