Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 4th December 2023

What a joy to have a quiet week after last week’s madness!

First of all, three follow ups from last week’s blog.

I have been speaking to our new Headteacher and we have agreed to officially announce this is on both of our websites on the last school day of 2023. It will be in my blog.

Our draft Ofsted report came on Monday and we have agreed it without any alterations. It has now gone back to Ofsted for final checking and we should have the official version in a few weeks. Again, we will be putting this on the website, but also sending it out to all of our families when it arrives.

The Winter Fair was a fantastic success. It was packed and you raised a staggering £2,600 for the school. Huge thanks to everyone who came along and spent money and special thanks to the Friends of Ravenswood, their army of helpers and all the staff who stayed back to help organise this.

We had our final open afternoon for next year’s Reception parents on Monday. Applications for places need to be made through Newcastle City Council by 15th January 2024. This includes applications for all of our current Nursery children, so please don’t forget. If you know of anybody looking for a Nursery place next year, then they can apply now directly to the school. Places are already filling up, which is lovely news.

On Thursday, some of our children went to the panathlon ten-pin bowling event. They had a fabulous afternoon with other children from across the city and worked really well together as a team. Well done!

On Friday, we had a special day remembering our caretaker Thierry, who sadly died of cancer in the summer. We celebrated his life with a non-uniform day and fund raising for St Oswald’s hospice, who cared for him. Thank you for all of your kind donations. Our thoughts remain with his family.

Tension is high in Early Years and Key Stage 1, as rehearsals for next week reach fever pitch. I hope you have booked your places for the shows. If you haven’t, there are still some spaces available using the school app or by visiting the school office, but please don’t turn up on the day without booking.

Shows are as follows.

  • Nursery and Reception – Carols - Monday 11th Tuesday 12th and Friday 15th December (2pm)
  • Year 1 – It’s Christmas Time - Wednesday 13th (2pm) and Thursday 14th December (9:30am)
  • Year 2 – Whoopsie Daisy Angel - Thursday 14th (2pm) and Friday 15th December (9:30am)

A couple of reminders for the last week before Christmas. This is party week and the parties are as follows.

  • N Monday 18th December and Friday 22nd December
  • R Thursday 21st December
  • Y1 Wednesday 20th December
  • Y2 Tuesday 19th December
  • Y3 Thursday 21st December
  • Y4 Tuesday 19th December
  • Y5 Wednesday 20th December
  • Y6 Monday 18th December

We also have two whole school events in the last week.

We will be holding our school Christmas Celebration at St Gabriel’s for the whole school on Tuesday 19th December at 5pm. This is a lovely event with some Christmas songs and carols, readings from the children and performances from both of our choirs and the school band. It is another chance for the Ravenswood Family to come together and celebrate, so I hope you can all make it.

Christmas Dinner is on Wednesday 20th December. Children can wear Christmas jumpers (or their favourite jumper) on this day if they wish to. You will need to let us know whether your child is having Christmas dinner on the Monday of the final week.
