Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 5th February 2024

Happy New Year to all of our families who follow the lunar calendar. We are lucky to have a vibrant and active Chinese community in Newcastle and if you are free on Sunday, it will be well worth a trip to China Town to witness the amazing celebrations. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, so the dragon dances will be extra special. I was born in the Year of the Dragon and so look forward to an exciting year ahead!

I have been sharing some fabulous lessons again this week. All of the children are working so hard at the moment and we are seeing some great progress.

On Thursday, we welcomed our two new students from the Newcastle University teacher training course (PGCE). Miss Burnley will be working with Mr Clarke in Class 12 and Miss Browne will be working in Class 5 with Miss Wick. I know that everyone will help them to feel at home.

There have been a few things going missing in school recently, which despite extensive searches, we haven’t been able to locate. Three things from this. Firstly, don’t let your child bring precious things into school; we have everything here that your child will need. Secondly, please label everything carefully and check that these labels don’t fall off or fade. And finally, if your child comes home with something that isn’t theirs, please return it to the office.

In a quiet week, it gives me an opportunity to thank our office team whose vital work often goes unmentioned. We are so lucky to have such a welcoming and caring team who are happy to support staff and families alike. It is a busy world in the office, but everything gets done efficiently with no fuss and lots of smiles. Huge thanks to Alison, Julie, Louise and Alison.

Next week, we will be welcoming Julian Hughes, our educational computing advisor into Year 5 and 6 to give some additional e-safety lessons. Julian will also be at next half term’s In the Loop meeting on 22nd March. The information he gives families every year is always interesting and supportive, so I would recommend popping this date in your diary. The meeting is at 9am, straight after drop off.

We are heading towards the end of the half term already. Please note that we break up at 3:30 on Friday 16th February and return for a short and busy half term on Monday 26th February. We will be contacting you next week to ask you to book your parents meeting which will take place on 11th and 12th March. Keep an eye out for that email.
