Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 6th November 2023

Welcome back after half term and Happy Diwali to all of our Hindu families. I hope you have a lovely day on Sunday. We will be having assemblies to celebrate Diwali in school next week.

Well done for remembering that we were off school on Monday. Staff had a good day training and preparing for a busy half term.

Thank you from the Royal British Legion, to everyone who has bought a poppy this year and thanks to our Year 6 volunteers for selling them. The children have had assemblies about this during the week and one of our cooks, Graham, brought his medals in to share with them on Friday. We are very proud of Graham, who spends lots of his time with the Territorial Army training cadets and has just been made a Sergeant Major. Congratulations to him.

I have had three parents catch me on the yard this morning to ask about lost property. The new system is now in place. If your child’s property is clearly named, then it will go straight back to them. If it is not clearly named, then it will be put into the lost property bin in the Key Stage 1 yard for you to search through. We have accumulated a lot of hats which I am not going to throw out just yet. If you recognise one in the photo, please send your child to me to claim it.

Anything not claimed will then be washed and given to the Friends of Ravenswood to go into their uniform store. This uniform store is available to all families who need uniform, simply call in at the office. We have a lot of uniform available and so it seems silly to buy brand new if we can recycle things for free.

On Tuesday next week, I will be holding our termly In the Loop meeting. On the agenda for this meeting is the appointment of a new Headteacher, changes to Maths and English in school, School Streets, parent governors and plans for Christmas. If you can make it, please join us at 9am for a coffee and a chat. I will be sending the information that we share to all families after the meeting.

We will be holding a non-uniform day next week to prepare for the Winter Fair which takes place on Friday 1st December at 3:30pm. The Friends of Ravenswood will be sending an email to all families asking if you could send in a bottle or some chocolates for the tombola and bottle pull stalls. Any donations will be very gratefully received. The team are already working hard to organise this and as ever, would love to hear from parents who could help out either in the preparation or on the day.

On Wednesday this week, our Young Sports Leaders were out training with other children from across the city.

They will become part of a growing team of school volunteers who want to give something back to the school. At the moment we have corridor volunteers, classroom volunteers and even a group of keen litter pickers. Thanks to Miss Morpeth and The School Council for helping to organise this and to all of the volunteers, some of whom I will feature in the blog over the coming weeks. Thanks also to the School Newspaper Team who have published their first paper of the year. These have been on sale all week.
