My name is Clive Maddison and I have had the pleasure of working at Ravenswood since 1986, becoming Headteacher in January 2013.
Ravenswood Primary School is a member of the Ouseburn Learning Trust and is one of Newcastle’s largest Primary Schools. It is situated in extensive grounds in North Heaton, just three miles to the east of the city centre.
Our school caters for a wonderful cultural and social mix of children, aged 4 to 11 years, and has a three form entry. In addition to this, we have a nursery unit for children aged 3+, we currently offer both 15 and 30 hour places.
We have a large and enthusiastic staff whose aim is to provide the highest quality learning opportunities for all pupils, within a school where high standards are expected and achieved. We feel that it is our job to teach the whole child. We do this by offering a broad and balanced curriculum and an extensive extra-curricular programme. This is designed to help every pupil experience as many aspects of education as possible and to find all of the things that they excel at, whether this is an academic subject, playing a musical instrument, writing code for a computer program, playing sport, performing on stage or any of the many other things that our pupils experience.
Let’s look at PE as an example. A pupil may enjoy a set of PE lessons in a particular sport. They may then turn up for that club at lunchtime and represent the school in competition. They may join a local out of school club and train with professional coaches. They may then go on to play for a development team and possibly even use this sport to support their entry to university. Ex-pupils have represented England in swimming in the Commonwealth Games, played for Newcastle Eagles, been part of the development squad at Newcastle United and won sports scholarships to university in the USA. Our job is to start these journeys; to create the enjoyment and to build the confidence so that the rest of the journey becomes a possibility.
Our school values the excellent parental involvement, support and co-operation that it receives, both in the education of each child and in the life of the school. We have an active Parent Teachers Association, the Friends of Ravenswood (FOR) run by parents and to which all parents automatically belong.
We believe in ‘Relationships Promoting Success’ and hope that this website demonstrates the positive relationships between all members of our school community and the successes that everyone at Ravenswood is part of. Strong relationships lead to happy pupils and happy pupils are more likely to make excellent progress.
Whether you are a pupil, ex-pupil, parent or prospective parent, I would like to thank you for visiting us and hope that you find everything you need. A school website is an ever changing portal on our world and we would love to hear from you if you have any ideas about how we can improve.
