World Book Day

I just wanted to start the newsletter by saying thank you. Thank you so much for a really lovely world book day. It was wonderful to have so many parents come to all of the 22 classes in school and share lovely experiences with your brilliant children. There were so many exciting activities going on all day – lots of crafts, characters made out of potatoes, lollipop sticks and quizzes outside in the warm weather. Many children left school absolutely certain that dragons were spotted on the school grounds!

Book Look

On Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th classrooms will be open to parents for 30 minutes after school from Year 1 – year 6 to have a look through their books ahead of parents evening. Children will need to leave school as usual and then any parents wanting to come with their children to look at books will need to go to the main entrance for KS1 or the car park entrance for KS2. This is to make sure that all of our children have left safely before coming back into school. Teachers will be in classrooms but this is more of an opportunity to look through your children’s work with them ahead of parents evening the following week. Parents don’t need to stay for the full 30 minutes and can move between classrooms if you have more than one child in school. As with previous ‘Book Looks’, because there is a limited space and we don’t want to overcrowd anyone, we respectfully ask that just one family member per child attends.

*Note: Year 4 children can come on Wednesday 12th as they will be at Hawkhurst residential on Thursday 13th

Thurs 13th – Friday 14th Hawkhurst Residential

On Thursday 13th, lots of Year Four children will be attending a residential at Hawkhurst. The children that are going have been asked to come into school with all of their belongings via the KS1 hall (next to the main entrance) from 8:30 a.m.

Friday 14th 2pm – Vision Ambassadors

On Friday afternoon, Year Six children will be presenting to the school council, who have the very important decision of electing our new ‘Vision Ambassadors’. We have five spaces available for each of our new school vision tree’s:

The children selected will find out in the following week’s assembly.

School Meals

Like many schools in Newcastle, Ravenswood Primary School does not directly employ our school dinner service staff. Instead, we partner with the local authority’s school meals service, which sets the menu and pricing.

We have been informed that, from 7th April, the cost of a school meal will increase to £3.

With the recent menu change introducing a new three-week meal rotation, and many children choosing their meals each morning rather than in advance, the kitchen team has had to anticipate demand when ordering ingredients. As a result, there have been occasions this week when certain meals have run out, and children have been offered alternative options.

Please be assured that we are committed to ensuring all children have access to a nutritious meal, and the kitchen team is working hard to manage supply while providing a variety of choices. We appreciate your understanding and support as we adjust to these changes.

School entrance Artwork

We’re very grateful to Mrs McCollum for coming in a painting a lovely tree in our main entrance – we had lots of lovely comments as parents came in for World Book Day yesterday:

Year 4 football

The Year 4 football team played their first every tournament this week and did superbly against strong opposition. In three games they scored 9 goals and conceded 3, winning 2 out of 3 matches. Well done team!

SEND Coffee morning – Thursday 13th March 10-11am

Some parents have shared that they’ve felt isolated when raising a child with additional needs. To help build a supportive network among parents across our trust of schools, we’re hosting a coffee morning on Thursday at Ravenswood. Parents are welcome  (whether their children have a diagnosed SEND need or not) to make connections with other families, find out what support and resources are available in schools and in the community and talk to senior leaders and other professionals involved in meeting the needs of children with SEND. We will be joined by professionals from NAPI, RISE mental health support, Newcastle Parent Carer Forum, Barnardos and the NHS nursing team who will be sharing the support that is on offer for families.
